I am in the midst of playing with Exchange 2010 RC setup. it's a full scale setup which includes HA(DAG) and other features.

First version of Exchange released about fourteen years ago when IBM/Lotus dominated the messaging software space but according to a 2008 Ferris research report, Notes/Domino share has dwindled to just 10% in enterprises, while Exchange has grown to 65% market share across all organizations. Exchange is now is approaching $2B in annual revenues.

In the previous article Step by Step guide on how to install Exchange Server 2010 Beta - Part 1, I have gone through on how to prepare and setup Exchange 2010 environment. In this part of article, I will touch on how to setup DAG(Database Availability Group).

DAG is the new features that introduced in Exchange 2010, it has significant improvement in how Exchange handles the HA and make it simple and cost less compare to Exchange 2007.

Now let's start our lab and configure our 1st DAG.

Have you ever wonder why you cant start this service both automatically and manually?
Chances are if you are downloaded build 532.09 & have installed both CAS role and Mailbox role on the same box, you will have this issue.

The reason? unknown

Been able to complete the installation of Exchange 2010 means able to explore and enjoy the new features of this new software from Microsoft.
