Outlook 2000: How to Create a New Personal Folder?
Open a New PST File
As an example, we will open a new ARCHIVE.PST file, since the current file is large and/or not performing well, even after being compacted.
- Close the current PST file.

2. As in Step 1 in Compacting shown above, on the Tools menu, click Services.
3. Click Personal Folders, then click the Add... button. Select Personal Folders from the "Available information services:" list box, and then click OK

4. In the Create/Open Personal Folders File, create a new PST. In the example, we will create personal folder 2005.pst. Type the file name in the File Name: text box, and click the Open button. Note that you can save the file someplace else than the default folder.

5. Outlook creates the new PST. Next the Create Microsoft Personal Folders dialog appears. This allows you to name the folder, set encryption levels, and set a password on the PST. To meet Internal Security Policy, leave the Encryption Setting to Compressible Encryption. You can set a password on the PST; however, you need to be aware of possible issues. Please see Password Protecting Personal Folders BEFORE setting a password.

6. Click OK. The new folder will be added to your Folders list, and is ready for use.
