What's new in Sharepoint 2007 - Part I

Portal provides users a place where they can visit and get the right information they are looking for from a single place, the main idea is that they don't have to go to other places or shuffle across to find the key information. Moreover portals should provide users ability to personalize the site both in terms of content and its presentation. Most of us interact with portals on daily basis, in fact if you simply browse to msn.com or my.yahoo.com you will get an idea what we are talking about (see figure 2.3.1 & 2.3.2)

 

In the previous article we took a closer look  of what are the basic building blocks of SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS here after) in order to better understand the vision of the product. In  this part II article, it provides benefits of enterprise content management in Sharepoint 2007. 

It's been more than half a decade back when Microsoft launch first version of SharePoint Server , named SharePoint Portal Server 2001 , followed by  SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and latest  we have SharePoint Server 2007 (see figure 1.0).Through all this time SharePoint Products and Technologies land scope got wider  and spectrum of functionality and features become considerably large. In this article we take a closer look  of what are the basic building blocks of SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS here after) in order to better understand the vision of the product. The subsequent articles will drill deep inside each one of these areas as each one of them deserves special attention.
